Corporations take over religion, plant candle vending machine at Spanish church

maquina cirios 2 1333
If you thought putting Jesus on a t-shirt was a vulgar way of using the Lord’s name to make money, what do you make of this candle vending machine installed in a church? The unique machine is located in a local chapel in the small Catalan town of Pals, in the Baix Empordà in Spain which is disturbing not on the level of capitalization of religion alone, but also disturbs us in context of the decline of small businesses like candle selling within the local economy. This perhaps is the ugly side of globalization we refuse to look at ever so often and for me, having even a hint of profit-making within any religious context is just about equivalent to funding jehad or selling your soul to the devil!
