3 Outdoor Activities That Are Better Than a Day at the Beach

Outdoor Activities That Are Better Than a Day at the Beach

While the beach might be the most popular summer destination for families, it might not always be possible or affordable to take a long beach vacation. There are still a few outdoor activities that you can do with your family that will encourage everyone to get outside and spend time together, as well as encourage physical activity to keep the kids healthy while school isn’t in session.

There’s likely a resort within driving distance, no matter what climate you live in. While it doesn’t have to be a long stay, a weekend or overnight in a resort with a golf club or other outdoor recreation center can be a great way to get the family together. Pensacola golf courses offer friendly family competition, a great learning experience for younger children, and might even feature a lake or other small body of water. Golf is a great sport for reducing anxiety and can be challenging and fun to master for years to come. These golf courses will usually be on property at the resort or just a short walk or drive away, and can offer a great morning or afternoon activity that the whole family can participate in.

TennisAnother great family activity is playing tennis. This can be a solitary or team sport, and will require lots of practice and dedication, which can be great for keeping kids busy all summer. Whether you learn together through a tennis instructor, or they learn at a tennis camp for a few days each week, this can be a sport that they’ll enjoy for years to come. If the weather gets too sweltering, there are many sports clubs that offer indoor tennis courts. This is a great sport for cardiovascular health, building hand-eye coordination and teaching good sportsmanship.

Swimming might seem like an obvious summer activity. Enrolling the kids in swimming lessons can be a great way to keep them busy and cool this summer. While they might already know how to doggy paddle, swimming lessons can be another great healthy activity that teaches coordination and is low-impact. They’ll have a great time splashing around in the pool, and will hardly even realize they’re improving their balance, cognitive functioning and social skills.

Even if your family isn’t able to make it to a lengthy beach vacation this summer, there are plenty of outdoor alternatives that can be a great way to get the kids and yourself outside and moving. These are just a few examples of sports and activities that the whole family can participate in.
