Honda for the old and differently-abled

Honda, the name synonymous with wheels, has come up with the most ingenious application of their expertise. The latest from his house is the Walking Assist Device, a robotic assist device for disabled individuals. Thanks to this avant-garde innovation, all the oldies can chuck their walking sticks. After tasting success with the self walking ASIMO, they decided to employ its robotics technology into such a worthwhile endeavor. Offered in three sizes, the device is worn around the hips and thighs to assist walking for the elderly and other people with weakened leg muscles. The down fall is that it can assist only those who are used to the idea of taking steps. Its only downfall is that it cannot help those who cannot walk on their own at all. But haven’t they dubbed it right as Walking Assist Device? Simply assistance!

Powered by lithium ion batteries, the brushless DC motors will help the needy to with two hours of walking assistance per battery charge. It is all set to walk the red carpet at the International Trade Fair on Barrier Free Equipments & Rehabilitation for the Elderly & the Disabled (BARRIER FREE 2008), Intex Osaka, April 25-27, 2008.
