Torturous Judas cradle transformed for comfort

Product: Stake chair

Designer: Ton Guglya

My take: The Judas Chair, also known as the Judas Cradle, was a terrible medieval torture device allegedly used by the Spanish Inquisition. The victim would be placed (naked) on top of a pyramid-like seat, so that he would not fall asleep, often resulting in rips and tears causing pain and even death.

Russian designer Ton Guglya, by placing a glass seat on top of the pyramid, transformed that medieval torture device into a chair. Why glass? I think, he chose a glass seat so that people could see through the glass and relate to its medieval purpose.
