Solo: Microphone Lamp from Re-Surface Design of Brooklyn

A little restyling, a calculated twist, a couple of tweaks have proved to be quite useful in the art of lending a new ‘avatar’ to simple, everyday items. And often, after the makeover, the result is so amazing that we forget what we started off with. The ‘Microphone Lamp’ is one such attempt. A microphone and a lamp have met.

Lovingly christened ‘Solo’ from Re-Surface Design of Brooklyn, this ‘re-mix of the classic microphone as light fixture’ is meant to come handy during whatever exercises you need to use the mic for, after sunset. That way, you don’t need an extra light. The tiny bulb fitted inside should suffice to light up a small area. It is available in classic black or white/gold.

In case you don’t believe, you’d need a microphone in the next 100 years yourself, you can gift it to somebody you think might need to practice his/her lines or lyrics in the dark. It comes in a nice foam-lined gift case.

I would call it another of those innumerable ‘cute’ ideas that would never cook up a storm but might win a couple of hearts. I hope that’s precisely what Re-Surface Design of Brooklyn had set off to achieve in the first place, because any greater ambition might cause disappointment. I am sure I’d pick up something more ornamental for $150.00.
