The Lantern festival started in 1990, hosted by the tourism bureau of the ministry of transportation and communications in Taiwan, when thousands of paper lanterns fill up the sky (on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar calendar). The purpose of the festival is to spread the traditional folklore festival, and this time there were 5000 of them littering the township of Pingshi.
