Interview: Jin woo han a designer from South Korea

Jin woo han is a concept designer all the way from South Korea. He has come up with amazing concepts that have futuristic tinge in them. You will witness a few of them as you’ll scroll further. Oh! forgot to tell you, his area of expertise includes 3-D modeling and concept developing.

1. When and how did your journey into the field of design begin?

Jin: 2 years and half.

2. On an average, how much time do you spend in formulating your idea into design or concept? And who or what is your source of inspiration?

Jin: Normally it takes me 2 days, so most of my designs aren’t complete to show/advertise on books or daily goods.

3. How were you able to make the concept of LEGO alive, please give us a brief synopsis o’er it?

Jin: Actually, it wasn’t made for Lego corp., I made it for another toy design company, but they weren’t satisfied with this concept. So I suggested to Lego group.

4. Gadgets gradually are making a way into the everyday life of human affairs, where would the flight go from here, what do you say?

Jin: Daily, product is being developed and I think technology should not lead customers rather technology should be supported for customer’s life.

5. What is your design approach? Are aesthetics a large part of product design?

Jin: Almost my designs aim to new function or structure for giving new value to customers. Aesthetics is next. Of course, aesthetics is important too.

6. There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the distinction between art and craft. What category would you say your work falls into? How would you distinguish between art and craft?

Jin: I don’t know my designs fall into which category 🙂 maybe customers will judge. Art is for artists (maker) or few customers, but craft is not only for customers.

7. What can we expect to see in future with respect to your concepts?

Jin: I would like to design daily goods, such as kitchen goods or interior goods.

8. Any idea or message you’d like to leave that every person must remember about this interview?

Jin: Please think about it when you make a new product; if you are a customers whether you’ll use it or not. I still cannot think carefully like other famous designer.

Only music player.

If there is one usability tool you could not live without what would it be? Why?
Jin:
Watch. When I was in Japan, I was very hard time to know time. Because, I don’t wear watch. I used to know time by watching cellphone.

Jin:
Device without function is not a device, it’s art.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Jin:
Radio, it looks like airplane engine.

If you had to walk in another person’s shoes for a day, it would have to be?
Jin:
Change with your shoes 🙂
