1. What made you take up design as a career and how did you go about it?

Anna: I knew from a very early age that I wanted to pursue career as a designer as I have always enjoyed materials, the way things are made, how they are put together and making. I started putting the subconscious (ideas) into reality, that’s how it all started, although I am still very much at the beginning as I have just started to sell my own products.

2. How are you able to ‘push properties to achieve innovation without loss of quality’?

Anna: Research and experimentation.

3. You were Avenue Verte III Finalist in 2006, then you received numerous accolades in 2007, British Council Top Ten, Burt Brill and Cardens, Outstanding achievement in Design from Nagoya University of Art, so how have recognition like these benefitted your career so far?

Anna: The Top Ten/ Dieci e Lode has been really good for press and getting my name about. It has also given me the opportunity to participate in other exhibitions plus networking with other designers. Overall it has given me confidence that other people enjoy my design.

4. How were you able to maneuver optical illusions in case of the four sets of stools?

Anna: Illusions are magical and a magician never gives away his trick.

5. How and when did the idea behind ‘Gumnetic’ hit you?

Anna: About a year and half ago I realized that I wasn’t able to walk anywhere without stepping on a piece of discarded chewing gum. I started to notice the eye saw that these splodges of gum bought to our town and cities.

I then studied other litters that are found in the same areas and realized quickly that nearly all of these litters could be recycled. Then the question came.

Can we recycle Gum? The answer – Gumnetic.

6. Your products characterize a sustainable approach that has led to pioneering but practical considerations of our sustainable futures. How far would you agree with me?

Anna: I would agree that some of my products come from a sustainable angle and it is never far from my thoughts when designing.

7. Do you sketch ideas on paper before or start from the scratch?

Anna: I do sketch but initially I start to make models as I think in 3D therefore I find it easier to make a quick model, so I suppose I sketch through models.

8. Would you please substantiate a little about the various themes, on which you have worked so far?

Anna: My work tends to follow many different themes as my ideas seem to stem from being observant to the environment that surrounds us. This is always changing, hence the themes within my work. Past themes are clear from the products I have produced. The most recent theme I seem to be following is Nordic Ski Patterns. Who knows where this will lead.
