In a strange bid to commemorate the outstanding performance of the German Olympic team in Beijing, Internet firm Expedia Germany got more than a thousand of their compatriots to help lay the world’s longest beach towel on the sands of the country’s St Peter-Ording resort. The chain of yellow towels spanned more than 2,760ft and was assembled by the volunteers in less than 30 minutes. Of course it isn’t as yet known whether the effort has broken some kinda record or not but it does tell you that the Germans just put their heart and soul into everything they do whether it be pushing for gold at the Games or making sure their bums get a nice resting place on the beach!
