Old-school paper and tobacco cigarettes are very easy to understand. The process starts when the cigarette is exposed to a flame from a lighter or a match. Ignition happens, the tobacco burns, and the smoker inhales the smoke. It is a simple process and it is easy to understand. It is a similar theory that applies to other old-school products like pipes or cigars. But more recently we have seen the rise of new products know as vapes or electronic cigarettes. These items are proving wildly popular and appear to be slowly but steadily replacing the older more traditional forms of smoking. But how do they work, and do they have the same effect on their users? Here are some answers.
Do they use tobacco
Electronic cigarettes do not burn tobacco. Instead, the smoker will buy e-cigarette liquid, which is available in a variety of flavors and strengths. This is inserted into the device where it is turned into a vapor through an electrically powered process within the coils of the device. It is due to the fact that the liquid is turned into a vapor that the device is commonly referred to as a ‘vape’. Meanwhile the electricity that powers the process comes from a battery that is housed within the device.
What gives it its effect?
In the same way that a traditional smoker gets their high from the nicotine that is contained in the tobacco, so too does the e-cigarette smoker derive their fix from nicotine that is contained within the liquid. What smokers of e-cigarettes like is the fact that the nicotine content of their liquid can easily be controlled, and they can buy higher doses or lower doses depending on their needs?
One of the key things to note with e-cigarettes is that there are far fewer chemicals and toxins involved in the whole process. While that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are not cancer risks, what it does mean is that they are fewer health risks. And, at the same time it is also a much smoother and more enjoyable experience for the smoker. Some of the health benefits include better breath, less lung congestion and fewer impact on passive smokers in the surrounding areas.
How does the vape coil work?
This is a surprisingly simple process and as with a traditional cigarette, it works with heat. The coil, or atomizer, is a tightly wound coil of copper wire that is wrapped in a wicking fabric. The fabric absorbs the liquid. Then, when the vape is activated through the press of button electricity is passed through the coil and it heats up. It is a similar process to a light-bulb that turns heat in a coil into light. In this instance the coil heats the fluid that has been absorbed by the wicking material and it turns it into vapor. It is this vapor that the smoker will then inhale to get their hit of nicotine. It’s a simple and enjoyable process.
