DIY LEGO scanner concept

With the iconic LEGO bricks being used to make all kindsa crap these days (remember the solar-powered AC outlets, real working engines and the giant chess set?), it was only about time someone made something that we all can use in the course of our daily routines. Which is exactly what LEGO-enthusiast Anders Søborg did. Using LEGO Mindstorm bricks, Anders built and programmed his own NXT scanner which is basically a simpler version of the flatbed scanner that can scan and save images as BMP files in either 24-bit true color, 8-bit color or gray scale. Now the LEGO scanner isn’t really any faster than any other such peripherals in the market, but since you built them using LEGOs, it only costs you a fraction of the cost of a branded scanner and that my friend is what I call a bargain.
