Beware Baby Burglars!

If we can have one for our car, one for our locker and one for our home, why not one for the baby? New ‘baby alarms’ are making waves in Scandinavian hospitals following a series of infant kidnappings. In the past few months, Norway had been a mother’s nightmare as hospital personnel and parents constantly feared a lurking child-lifter in the premises. To put an end to this epidemic, doctors have suggested the use of burglar alarms on babies which trigger a high security mechanism as soon as they beep.

This innovation works on the same principle as a regular burglar alarm except that instead of being hooked on a wall, it is fastened to the ankle of a baby. The other connecting half of the device is tied to the mother’s wrist. Whenever mom wanders too far away or someone tries to temper with the device (or the baby), the alarm goes off. As soon as it does, all the doors auto-lock and elevators come to a halt! That looks like the most extreme measure to discourage cradle predators.

While we don’t have baby kidnappings at such a magnitude everywhere, this device could be used as a pet security system while going out on leash-less walks and picnics.
