The Japanese love Astro Boy more than the Americans love Mickey Mouse. It is be possible to say they love him more than they love their sushi. The Japanese who are also crazy about Anime, Video Games and robots, confuse everyone with their unusual tastes. Astro’s character practically invented ‘manga’ in the 1950s and the Anime in the 60s. Even when Astro Boy’s show ended decades ago, the Japanese still hold on their beloved character dearly. The robot boy’s face can be seen all over Tokyo- in subways, on billboards, on posters, at shops, the list is endless.

The craze came to light to the world when volunteers around the Shinjuku area created a mural measuring 10×7 feet. The best part of the mural is that it consists of 138,000 recycled Tokyo Metro tickets. The pixel art was made to mark the opening of Tokyo’s new Fukutoshin subway line. The art show depicts Astro Boy, Uran, Professor Ochanomizu, Higeoyaji among others. The Mural can be found at the Shinjuku Takashimaya Departmental Store.
