Master jeweler Glenn Curtis teamed up with product developer Trevor Brown to create an ornate gem-encrusted pen to be auctioned off during the Australia week celebrations in New York on January 22. The solid gold pen features hand carvings depicting endangered species and Australian animals like koala, kangaroo, crocodile and green turtle. Along with 450 gems including diamonds and sapphires, the pen also depicts the words ‘Conservation in Action’ on its barrel. The handcrafted was prepared after three months of intense labor by master craftsmen at Curtis Australia. The luxury pen is expected to fetch around $79,000 and the proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Wildlife Warriors charity set up by the late conservationist and TV personality ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin and his wife Terri in 2002.
