4000-year-old necklace – A royal possession

ancient necklace
Since the dawn of civilization, Homo sapiens were drawn to the glitter of gold and so intense was the love of some people for gold jewelries that they preferred to be decked with the precious metal even in their tombs. Not only did the Egyptian kings and queens keep gold jewelries in their pyramids but also the ancient Mayas and Aztecs were no different. A 4000-year-old necklace made of gold and turquoise beads had been found from an ancient burial site near Lake Titicaca in southern Peru. This necklace is not intricately crafted but has solid elongated gold beads alternating with rounded turquoise beads – quite a wonder by ancient standards.
