While some make luxury homes and hotels out of airplanes, others are trying to create unique products that will appeal to any aviation enthusiast. • Cosmic Muffin

This unusual plane-boat is made out of the historic and rare aircraft – Boeing 307 Stratoliner (1937). The boat is titled “Cosmic Muffin” and was originally owned by the aviation pioneer Howard Hughes. After changing hands, the plane was finally transformed into a boat, long back in 1969. David R. Drimmer and his company PlaneBoats remodeled it and gave it the name “the Cosmic Muffin.” The ‘plane-boat’ features twin V-8 inboards incorporating the original aircraft cockpit controls that were used to fly the plane, propelling the vessel over 20 mph. Electrical, plumbing, sanitation and air conditioning systems were installed along with a new interior that included restored chairs and bar. More here.

• The $30K Boeing 747 Flight Simulator

John Davis built a Boeing 747 flight simulator in a room in his house. The 47-year-old divorcee spent eight years and £15,000 (US $30,733) to build the incredible jumbo jet cockpit. The flight deck touts a simulator, which recreates every switch and sound on a Boeing 747. He has used an old car seat as the leather flight chair to lift the undercarriage, switch to automatic pilot and settle back to enjoy the traverse. The life-sized replica of the cockpit is mainly constructed from wood except the autopilot system, throttles and weather radar, which he sourced from the internet. More here.

• Boeing 727 Jet Limo

Someone has actually built a street legal Boeing 727 Jet Limo. The best part is that the transformed Mercedes bus is street legal and has that capacity to sit up to 50 people in opulence. This Boeing 727 Jet Limo includes a sunken living room with a dance floor, big screen TV, fireplace, full bar, fog machine, tons of lighting, ceiling mirrors and aerodynamic seats. The whole thing weighs approximately 24,000 pound. More here.

• Costa Rican Airplane Hotel

Located at the edge of the Manuel Antonio National Park, the Costa Verde Resort features an incredible hotel suite set inside a 1965 Boeing 727 airplane. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite also includes a kitchenette, flat-screen TVs, a dining room, and a terrace with an ocean view. More here.

• Boeing 737 Case Mod

The amazing passenger-jet-shaped mod modeled after a Boeing 737 is powered by an AMD FX-55 processor and a GeForce 7800GT GPU. The artistic case mod took six long months to be completed and is lightweight enough to be set up against a wall, or hung up using a monitor wall-mount system. The center section holds the motherboard, the front nose houses the two hard drives, DVD/CD drive is hidden in the wing and the tail section is where the power supply is mounted. Also integrated into the wing is the keyboard and mouse receiver, and the Coolermaster Jet-7 CPU cooler is attached underneath and functions as an intake fan. More here.

• Boeing 747 homemade Flight Simulator

Matthew Sheil spent a whopping $230,000 for the 747 experience inside his living room. The whole setup is controlled by 13 quad-core Voodoo PCs. For the video the designer has used 42-inch Philips Ambilight LCD screens and for those aircraft controls Matt has got Saitek’s X52 joystick and toggle. The experience inside the simulator is even better than that inside the original cockpit. The simulator pilot will feel the finest detail of piloting a 747 inside the cockpit that even includes the G-Forces, thanks to the high-end hydraulic systems installed in the setup. More here.

• Motoart Boeing Flight Simulator

Beautifully aged and mirror polished, the MotoArt simulator has been made with vintage aviation parts. We are short on technical details, but we do know that this ingeniously crafted simulator was spotted at Air Frances’ 75th anniversary party in Paris. More here.

• Jumbo Hotel

An abandoned Boeing 747 jumbo jet has been taken and transformed into a good-looking 25-room hotel in the Stockholm-Arlanda airport. Every room in this aircraft-turned-hotel measures 65 square feet and features bunk beds, overhead luggage storage and flat-screen TVs. Don’t expect to have your own personal shower enclosure here. The toilets and showers can be found in the reception area along with the café. The upper deck of the jumbo hotel has been tailored for a conference room, while the cockpit is the new wedding suite. • Motoart’s 727 Jet Lounge

The 727 Jet Lounge is composed of two Boeing 727 emergency exit doors. The designer says, “By the time these jets are decommissioned, an average 11,000 passengers have traveled by each one of the windows.” The recycled piece of furniture is detailed to provide comfort to its owner. The shape of the door remains the same; the aluminum is polished to reveal every single construction detail. More here.

A Boeing 747 is recycled and used in a residential home. Architect David Hertz has designed a home using all the pieces of a Boeing 747 to build it. This project is a 55 acre property in the remote hills of Malibu with several sites and unique topography with panoramic views. More here.
